TOM EMERY

Director of ODISSEI – Open Data Infrastructure for Social Science and Economic Innovations. Associate Professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Tom Emery is an Associate Professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam and serves as the Director of ODISSEI, the Dutch National Infrastructure for Social Science. His work is focused on the development and improvement of social science research infrastructure, aiming to make data collection and analysis more accessible and effective. This includes advocating for open science and the FAIR principles (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability) to enhance research transparency and data usability.

 

Emery's academic background spans several disciplines, with a PhD in Social Policy from the University of Edinburgh and an MSc in Social Policy Analysis from KU Leuven. His research interests center on family sociology, demography, and social policy, particularly in areas like intergenerational relations, childcare strategies, and the social impacts of aging populations. In addition to his teaching and research roles, Emery has been actively involved in various international collaborations, including leading tasks in EU-funded projects like SSHOC (Social Sciences & Humanities Open Cloud) and SERISS (Synergies for Europe's Research Infrastructures in the Social Sciences). These projects aim to standardize and enhance social science research across Europe through better infrastructure and data sharing platforms.

 

 


The Swedish Register-Based Research Summit is organized by SWE-REG, a collaborative initiative involving seven research environments and a research school in register-based research, supported by the Swedish Research Council.
