New sustainable bio-based solutions are needed to replace fossil raw materials and to support the development and competitiveness of both the national and EU bioeconomy. Value-added bio-based chemicals are one part of the future solutions.
Bio-based chemicals derived from biomasses, such as forest and agricultural primary and side streams, offer a renewable alternative for the production of many daily products. The industry and societies have a strong need for renewable alternatives and the demand will increase the availability of bio-based products in the near future.
What opportunities do valuable biochemicals offer for the production of food, cosmetics, textiles and packaging? Which policy tools can increase the competitiveness and market uptake of the biochemicals? A webinar by the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) on 10th March provides an outlook on the sustainable use of bio-based value-added chemicals and their growing market. The webinar builds on our recent publication "Valuable biochemicals of the future".
